Lift Off

It has been a long time coming, but my departure date has finally arrived. It is an extraordinarily strange feeling to leave the house with no keys in your pocket and nowhere to return to. For the first time ever I am homeless, carless, and unemployed, yet I have never felt more confident about where my life is heading. It seems like yesterday I was living in my own house, driving my own car, had a successful career, and a great group of people to call my friends. And while that last one is still absolutely true, I cant say the same of the rest.

It has been a very busy last couple weeks in preparing for this trip, between renting my house, quitting my job, finally selling my car at the 11th hour last night, procuring everything I need to travel with, getting health insurance, appointments with doctors, and of course saying goodbye to my loved ones. That last one was far more difficult than I ever would have imagined. On my Derek Jeter-esque farewell tour it finally hit me how much I am going to miss my amazing friends, family, and my girlfriend Carrie. It was not easy saying goodbye, so this day is bittersweet, but I am also extraordinarily excited to get started on this crazy adventure of mine. Today I will land in Belize and make my way out to San Pedro, a divers paradise and the first of many towns that I will temporarily call home.

  1. Hey there fellow adventurer/ explorer! Welcome to the world of the unknown! How very exciting! Congratulations on making your first step towards a fuller existence. Going to read through your blog for the full story… but check out ours as well. We have similar paths and are currently in Belize. You must go to Caye Caulker as San Pedro is very commercial. They call it the Vegas of Belize. Caye Caulker is also a great place to gather your thoughts re your epic adventure. Safe travels.

    1. Thanks, I read a couple of your posts and it looks like quite the amazing journey you guys have going. I will be heading to Caye Caulker on Sunday and am eagerly looking forward to it. I would agree with you about San Pedro. It is not without its beauty, but it is a bit over developed for my tastes.

      Safe travels,
      Stephen
